Canine CPR Certification

A 4-hour class taught by Pet Tech Instructor Christie Bahena and demo dog Monster, including CPR techniques, first aid skills, health care and wellness information for dogs and cats.
Class will be split into 2 sections, 2 hours each to allow you to attend other classes at K9 Social Summit. You may complete your 2 classes on separate days to achieve certification.

This hands-on class includes the PetSaver® 40-page handbook and upon successful completion, each participant will receive a certificate and a take-home first aid basics kit. Sometimes the unexpected happens…will you be prepared to take action when it does?

Basic Odor Theory & Introduction to Tracking

Covering what comprises odor/plumes, the characteristics of odor, the biological adaptations for K9 olfaction, how to read body language in a dog while tracking/trailing and distinctions between air vs ground scent.

The class will also teach you how to begin imprinting (teach) odor with toy or food to your dog. During a working practical application session, Mountain will works hand-on with you starting this process with your dog of any age.
Heat Injury

Heat Injury is in the top three mechanisms of injury for dogs annually, in both a training and working environment.
This course covers the basics of heat injury prevention by recognition of early signs and symptoms. Course content will also include what you can do if your dog becomes a heat casualty while transporting to a veterinary hospital.

Life-saving skills are not only critical for working K9 handlers but pet dogs too. Arming yourself with basic animal medical knowledge can make the difference during an accident at home or abroad with your pet or service dog. Do you like to go hiking with your dog? Walks are the neighborhood? Does your dog encounter other dogs?
Penetrating trauma from foliage or a gun shot wound or a dog-on-dog bite are treated with the same basic first aid principles. This class covers basic canine anatomy and vital signs, treating injuries on site as well as tailored towards less extreme but common dog injuries, dressing and bandaging at point of injury, Canine First Aid kit contents and K9 emergency medical preparedness best practices.

Marker Training, Cues and Signals 101

What is the difference in the wait and stay command? Why is it important to hit your clicker at the exact moment your dog does what you asked? How can we silent-train our dogs and why is it important? Get the answers to these questions and more in the Marker Training, Cues, and Signals course!
Christie will cover an intro to marker training and talk about what cues to use, when to use them, and why we use certain verbiage in addition to teaching verbal vs. hand signals.

Trick Dog Champion Monster will be in attendance to perform a demo on what the DMWYD program is all about and show you how EASY it is to earn titles and print your and your dog’s names in the history books.
